Featuring a new storyline but with many familiar characters, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a story-driven, “choose your own adventure”-like game where you get to attend the renowned School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learn how to cast spells and brew potions, and make new friends (and rivals) along the way.

However, the school hides many secrets and you can’t help but to be drawn to seek them out. Be warned though! You don’t want to end up like your poor brother who was expelled for doing the same thing and is now classified as "missing".

Between attending classes and practicing spells, every dialogue decision you make in this game will slowly but surely shape who your character turns out to be. Certain decisions will allow you to earn points for one of 3 attributes, namely Courage, Empathy, and Knowledge, and your attributes will eventually shape your relationships with your friends and rivals.

The gameplay also includes an energy-based task completion system that mimics mostly fashion-oriented, “rise to fame” games like Stardom: Hollywood, etc. This means you'll need to perform certain actions to progress on specific tasks and earn Stars. Having enough Stars is crucial for progression in this game. That said, the game makes the grind fun by adding in mini-games like "spell tracing" or answering a simple quiz.
