Like any other MMORTS games, you'll need to manage your empire by accumulating resources and then spend them strategically in various aspects as you develop your empire, whether it is by amassing a larger army, building new buildings or upgrading existing ones, or investing resources into various technological researches. However, unlike other games, you get to recruit powerful dragons and as such, you'll need to tend to their needs as well.

Raiding other players' kingdoms is a huge part of the gameplay. Combat in this game is auto-resolved so it's all about the composition of your invading army rather than on-the-battlefield tactics if you want to win consistently. The game also offers PvE content, allowing you to hunt down monsters for rare loot. As with any other game within the genre, King of Avalon is very social and strongly encourages you to form alliances with other players.
